Whenever we go to school celebrations, Pablo heads straight for the cake walk. As a boy, he walked 'round and 'round many a cake walk at his elementary school with no luck. Once Sahara was in school he started up again, purchasing ticket after ticket at both the May Fair and the Winter Light Fair every year. I would roll my eyes at his enthusiasm and point out that we could buy a really good cake with the money we spent on cake walk tickets every year.
Yesterday was the Heart of the Village celebration at Sahara's new school. As we headed up to the first grade classroom to watch the students perform a shadow puppet play, Pablo side stepped the classroom door and hurried down the hall for a go at a new cake walk. And he won!
I was flabbergasted when he snuck back into the first grade with a cake in his hands. A Sweet Life Cake nonetheless! We invited friends over for dessert last night to share the momentous occasion.
